Repetition is not one of the, "worst elements of song writing". In fact, it is a literary tool (often used by Shakespeare and countless other poets) that helps emphasize a point. So I think Flowers' use of repetition of "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" is quite interesting. Not only does it make for a good song, but it makes us think as well.

I think he doesn't look a thing like jesus means, you've spent your whole life waiting for someone who was the vision of prince charming, and he comes along and he treats you well and talks like a gentleman and you realize he could be better that you ever thought. :D

Also, "All Along the Watchtower" was originally written by Richie Havens, not Bob Dylan.

The cool thing about this and many of The Killers' lyrics is that it's just vague enough to have a meaning for everyone.
This one is by far one of my favorites. I feel like the song itself is a student/mentor dialogue saying "Take me on, help me succeed, help me become a man, I can do it!", and the song really gets me motivated.

As far as this line goes, I think it's saying that I've got purpose, my life has meaning, but I'm not going to force it on anyone-- I'm going to live my life fulfilled.
